Happy (almost) birthday, 'Merica! We have zero plans for the 4th of July this year, and I am OK with that. Maybe we'll crash a neighborhood party. Maybe we'll soak in our kiddie pool with some beers (and milk, for Jack). Or maybe we'll hunker here in the air conditioning and whip up a few all-American pizzas.
I don't care what people say. When it's 100 degrees outside, I would much rather turn on my oven and be in air conditioning than stand outside in front of a flaming grill. And if you think about it, bucking the trend is (more or less) what this holiday's all about anyway. To further sway you, I dug through the archives (I'm up to 146 pizza recipes!) to find four of my favorite 4th of July–worthy pizzas. Three are based on classic sandwiches (BLT, cheeseburger, and hot dog with cheese sauce), and one's a vegetarian beaut topped with ripe tomatoes, mozzarella, and fresh basil. See?! You can have your summery cookout food and stay inside, too. Some might say it's . . . ahem . . . revolutionary.
