Summer Pizza Ideas & Recipes, Including Grilled and Roasted Pizzas
Ah, summer—the season of fat, juicy tomatoes, sweet and spicy peppers in all the colors, endless varieties of tender herbs and greens, zucchini, summer squash, eggplant . . . you get the picture. Here in Philadelphia, summertime is the closest we get to the climate of Naples, where pizza was born. And as you explore the season in pizza form, you'll understand why this incredible food got its start in such a bountiful place. A round of stretched-out pizza dough is the perfect way to savor in-season produce.
For starters, try twice-grilled Margherita and/or fresh tomato and pesto, then keep exploring with za'atar eggplant, poblano pesto, peach and tomato with herbed white sauce, and BBQ bacon with peppers and corn. If you have your own veggie garden, have fun experimenting with different in-season veggie or fruit combos. Nothing is off limits!
